The 35th Annual All Souls Procession Weekend is Friday-Sunday, November 1-3, 2024. It is a cherished Tucson tradition, bringing together over 200,000 participants in a powerful celebration of life, remembrance, and art. Originating in 1990 as a performance piece by local artist Susan Johnson, who sought to memorialize her father through creative expression, the event has since blossomed into a two-mile-long human-powered procession through downtown Tucson. The weekend-long celebration honors the memories of loved ones who have passed with offerings, installations, and performances from artists of diverse backgrounds and traditions.
This year, don’t miss Malta Joe’s presence on Sunday, November 3, where he will be serving up his full menu of Pastizzi, the famous savory and sweet Maltese pastries. As the Procession concludes with the ceremonial burning of “The Urn,” filled with hopes and wishes for the departed, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to indulge in these delicious hand-crafted treats. Malta Joe’s Pastizzi are the ideal comfort food to enjoy while soaking in the heartfelt atmosphere of Tucson’s most inclusive and creative public ceremony.
The All Souls Procession is organized by Many Mouths One Stomach, a local non-profit that fosters community through public celebration and ceremony. This year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend, with Malta Joe adding a flavorful touch to the festivities.
